June (the gateway to summer?)
I love June and all that it means. The end of the school year (I’m a schoolteacher after all), the beginning of summer, beaches, pools, sundresses, sunroofs, driving around to estate sales in the suburbs...all of it.
I’m sending this month’s “newsletter” out early in the month because there’s a lot of cool things happening in June that I want to put on your radar, like sales, markets, events (both ticketed and free) and a good house.
An estate sale worth checking out:
A house I posted that is FULL of vintage treasures is having an estate sale this weekend. Finding a good sale IN South Philly is rare, so I’d encourage you to check it out! You can hit up Lisa in her dms with any questions, and be sure to lay off the basement couch - my clients are buying the house and they wrote that couch into their contract!
1637 W. Ritner, Saturday the 7th and Sunday June 8th. See her post for hours! Buy this couch at it:
Happy hunting!
More sale-sy stuff:
Friends of FDR Flea Market is June 7th from 10-1, and if it’s nice out? FDR is the best.
June 7th is also the MEGA Market at Thunderbird Salvage if you have the stamina for that!
And if you like other people’s old stuff, East Passyunk Community Sidewalk Sale is June 21st, details here. I believe you can make a donation and get your house put on the official “map” if you’re selling.
Some crafting & making ticketed events:
Below you’ll see some events I’m hosting in June - if you have ideas or cool venues I should check out, or whatever, shoot me a message on IG.
June 14th at 1pm and 3pm: Faux Ice Cream Social - making fake splits and sundaes with my old pal Mallory of Party Girl Bake Club. This one is at Fleisher, is daytime, and all ages. The description on Fleisher’s site is pretty thorough, but you can always hit me up if you have questions! I want you to know I made every banana by HAND, and they’re full of love and friendship. Your ticket includes all supplies and instruction, vintage glassware, PGBC cake, NA drinks from Poppi, and lots of photo opps.
Splits is almost sold out, but a fair amount of seats left for sundaes (which is also a cheaper ticket!)
June 24 is a MomMom Craft Night - LOVE Latch Hook class at Philly Magic Gardens Studio in South Philly. This pop art fibers project is the latest in my series of “crafts our grandmothers did”, and at a new (to me) location that is SO COOL (to be clear, it’s NOT the South Street location). The Studio is on Watkins Street, and is huge and impressive and so fun. This one is 21+ and BYOB, so let’s have fun!
This one is about learning the process for the project - you’ll start it with the group and finish on your own. All supplies and instruction included.
And some free events:
June 26 starts a series of FREEEE outdoor movie nights I’m hosting with Fleisher! All the movies are summer camp themed, and we’re starting with my personal favorite…Haley Mills and Haley Mills in The Parent Trap!
Seating starts at 7:30, showtime at sundown. Family friendly, bring a blanket, chair, snacks, whatever! In the Fleisher parking lot at 8th and Christian, very conveniently near to John’s Water Ice.
If you “register” (on Fleisher’s site) you’ll be entered to win a raffle prize, and there will be arts and crafts and I think a photo opp too!
There will be two other outside movie nights, where we’re showing Moonrise Kingdom and Addams Family Values. Come hang!
Houses:
Here’s my favorite house I saw in the past few weeks, and I will have a big reveal about it someday soon, but in the meantime you should familiarize yourself with it... It’s 1134 E. Johnson in Philadelphia (and yes it’s for sale and yes it’s magnificent. I have several posts about it on IG, sorry not sorry).
And I’m thrilled to have multiple clients closing on super cool South Philly houses this month! I LOVE connecting folks to quirky and charming old houses in the neighborhood, so hit me up if that sounds like something you’d like! I can point you in the direction of someone to talk to about getting prequalified if you haven’t gotten that far, and we can chat about your wants and needs! Email me at sue.liedke@compass.com for house hunting inquiries.
ILU,
Sue
